But while such videos have become quite the running joke among those who closely follow Elon Musk and his projects, recent comments from the Tesla CEO suggest that a smartphone from a Musk-led company may not be so far-fetched after all.Musk has been neck-deep in controversy since finalizing his acquisition of the social media platform Twitter. One of his most recent controversial actions was a poll asking users of the platform whether it would be a good idea to grant blanket amnesty to suspended accounts. The poll ended with users deciding that an amnesty should be granted.

The people have spoken. The amnesty starts next week.

Vox Populi, Vox Dei.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 24, 2022 Talking to the Washington PostAlejandra Caraballo, clinical instructor at Harvard Law’s cyberlaw clinic, called on Apple and Google to “seriously” explore the idea of removing Twitter from their respective app stores.

Caraballo argued that Musk’s decisions on Twitter make the platform dangerous.“Apple and Google need to start seriously exploring launching Twitter from the app store. What Musk is doing is existentially dangerous to several marginalized communities. It’s like opening the gates of hell in terms of the havoc it will wreak.

People who have engaged in direct, targeted harassment can come back and engage in doxing, targeted harassment, vicious bullying, incitement to violence, celebration of violence.I can’t even begin to say how dangerous this will be,” Caraballo said.Musk, for his part, has stressed multiple times that Twitter would will not tolerate hate speech or messages that incite violence. These include recent calls to action from a group inviting people to attack Tesla stores to express their displeasure with Musk.I certainly hope it doesn’t come to that, but yes, if all else fails, I’ll make an alternative phone — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 25, 2022 The topic of Apple and Google potentially kicking Twitter out of their app stores was thoroughly discussed on the social media platform. It didn’t take long for some users to like the podcast host Lisa Wheeler noted that if Twitter is banned by Apple and Google, it would probably be a good idea for Musk to just produce a smartphone himself.Musk responded positively to Wheeler’s post, noting that while he hopes Twitter doesn’t get booted out of the Apple and Android app stores, he would make an alternative phone should the need arise.

“I certainly hope it doesn’t come to that, but yes, if there’s no other way, I’ll make an alternate phone,” Musk wrote.Since the idea of Musk making a phone seems far-fetched for now, the smartphone market would benefit from the addition of an alternative device simply because the segment has flattened in recent years.A look at the iPhone’s significant but iterative improvements in its cameras and processors every year is a sign of this trend. The same is true on the Android side, with devices apart from Samsung’s Fold series mostly focusing on iterative upgrades each year.Plus, Musk’s companies tend to inspire people, which is one of the reasons why some concept artists have already toyed with the idea of a Tesla-inspired phone. One is the concept creator Jonas Daehnertwho created a Cybertruck-inspired design for a potential smartphone following the unveiling of the all-electric pickup truck in late 2019.Daehnert’s design received widespread praise from social media users.

Of course you can only hope that Musk does not release such a device because Twitter has been banned by Apple and Google.Would you use a smartphone made by an Elon Musk-led company? Don’t hesitate to contact us with news tips.
