imageNEW DELHI: In an indirect attack on the past Congress governments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that attempts were made to erase the contributions of many freedom fighters after Independence but those “mistakes” are being corrected now.

Addressing a gathering after unveiling a hologram statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the India Gate on his 125th birth anniversary, the Prime Minister said that freedom struggle involved the sacrifices of lakhs of people, but attempts were made to limit their history.

Heaping lavish praise on the iconic freedom fighter, PM Modi said that people must take inspiration from Netaji’s “can do and will do” spirit.

“Netaji used to say ‘Never lose faith in the dream of Independent India, there is no power in the world that can shake India.’ Today, we have a goal to fulfill the dreams of an Independent India.We’ve a target to build a new India before the 100th year of independence in 2047,” PM Modi said.

He said the hologram statue will soon be replaced by a grand granite statue which will inspire democratic values and future generations.

“The grand statue of our Netaji, who had established the first independent government on India’s soil, is being installed in digital form near India Gate.Very soon this hologram statue will be replaced by a big granite statue,” he said.

‘Befitting tribute to Netaji’

Union home minister Amit Shah , who also addressed the gathering, said the statue of Netaji at India Gate will honour his contribution to the country’s freedom struggle.

“This is not just a granite statue but a befitting tribute to the legendary Netaji, who gave up everything for India’s freedom”, he said.

Shah said that Netaji’s indomitable spirit still inspires youth.

“I think after this India’s youth would like to experience Netaji’s 35,000 km journey from Calcutta to Berlin and later Japan; take inspiration from him,” he said.

The hologram statue will be powered by a 30,000 lumens 4K projector.

An invisible, high gain, 90 percent transparent holographic screen has been erected in such a way that it is not visible to visitors.

The size of the hologram statue is 28 feet in height and 6 feet in width.
