2022 has been a year of disruption for the original TV disruptor.
Amid a sharp downturn in subscriber growth, Netflix has laid off around 450 full-time employees and dozens of contractors, marking the first time the streaming giant has had to engage in mass cuts to its 11,000-person strong workforce.
But as it continues to vie for dominance in an increasingly heated direct-to-consumer entertainment market — which also includes Disney+, HBO Max, Apple TV+, and Amazon Prime Video — the company is still hiring at a quick clip.
By the time 2022 comes to a close, Netflix is expected to have released nearly 400 original TV shows, more than in any year before, research firm Ampere Analysis reported in March.
Netflix must also furnish its annexed and expanded territories: the late 2021 acquisition of Night School Studio points to a robust foray into gaming, and the 2023 launch of an ad-supported Netflix tier means a need for staffers with advertising expertise .
The entertainment company is expanding its workforce to drive those ambitions.Netflix ended 2021 with 11,300 full-time employees across 60 countries, 20% more than it had the previous year.
Its careers page currently has more than 300 job listings, including a senior games engineer , a consumer products designer , and a Singapore-based head of marketing partnerships for Southeast Asia .
How much money are new hires making? The company doesn’t disclose salary data, but, like other US firms, it discloses how much it plans to pay workers it hires on US visas.
Insider analyzed publicly available offer data from October 1, 2020 to June 30, 2022 to see how much Netflix is willing to pay talent hired in the US.
The data, released by the US Department of Labor’s Office of Foreign Labor Certification, included wages from 501 foreign-labor applications that were submitted by Netflix and certified.
Many of the roles offered six-figure base salaries.The data include base salaries only, and not additional stock awards or bonuses.They also don’t cover all employee offers, only those made to workers on a visa.

Netflix has declined to comment on this story.
Netflix’s compensation philosophy Netflix compensation policy stems from its unorthodox cultural philosophy , which hinges on principles like “freedom and responsibility.”
The streaming company doesn’t offer performance-based bonuses , unlike some others in the tech industry.Co-CEO Reed Hastings thinks bonuses hinder innovation .
Instead, Netflix pays its employees really well.
The company, which says it thinks of itself like a professional sports team, says it pays staffers at the top of each worker’s “personal market.” That personal market is based on each employee’s role and qualifications for the job.
As it relates to the data, the wages offers listed are the minimum amounts the company declared in applications that it would pay specific workers, according to US Department of Labor documentation.
Netflix may choose to pay employees more than the figures reflected in this data or compensate them in additional ways.While Netflix doesn’t do bonuses, it does allow employees to choose each year how much compensation they want in cash versus stock options.
Based on the data, Netflix offered annual base salaries ranging from $40.45 per hour to $800,000, with a median of $184,080, for various roles.
