Austria Inflation Rate Picks Up to 7.5% in August
The annual inflation rate in Austria is expected to quicken to 7.5% in August 2023, up from a 16-month low of 7% in July, preliminary estimates showed.”The increase is primarily due to the fact that higher prices for fuels dampen the inflation less than in the past months. The particularly high increases in prices in September and October 2022 suggest, that the previous trend of falling inflation rates will continue in the upcoming months on a year-on-year basis,” said Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas. On a monthly basis, consumer prices likely rose by 0.4% in August, after a 0.1% increase in the prior month. The harmonized index rose by 7.6% on the year and by 0.5% over the previous month.
