“Bitcoin isn’t crypto”

Can someone please explain to me why the Bitcoin community all of the sudden thinks it isn’t a cryptocurrency for…reasons? Like I understand we all hate shitcoins bringing down Bitcoin’s reputation by association, but are we just changing the definition of things because it doesn’t fit an agenda?

I’ll admit I’m wrong if someone can explain to me why it isn’t actually cryptocurrency, but from where I’m standing this community is starting to sound really dumb.

It is a cryptocurrency but I think what people are implying is that bitcoin is in a class of its own in comparison to all the other cryptos.

I’m inclined to agree, with only one exception.

Bitcoin is in a class of its own when compared with every other digital form of money. There is only one immutable, decentralised, censorship resistant global digital currency with an anonymous creator, there are no exceptions in this regard despite whatever alt-coin marketing you’ve consumed.

We are VERY bad at naming things in this space.Happens in a young, err sorry) VERY VERY young tech.Crypto, cryptocurrency and blockchain have been used interchangeably and all applied in some way shape or form improperly.

I believe the “Bitcoin isn’t crypto” crowd is simply trying to communicate that there is Bitcoin and there is everything else.

Of course Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency. Its also the granddaddy and the better built network. So its easy to simply say “Oh, just say Bitcoin and people will know its crypto!)

(I’m NOT saying its a BTC ONLY world.

I’m not saying there aren’t other chains that will be very popular.Just saying Bitcoin is the easy term for people to use when talking about the space, currency, and it gets mixed up with those other project blah blah blah.)

End of the day, we need to clean up our acts.Find a better way to communicate the MAJOR differences between stablecoins, algorithmic stablecoins, centralized coins vs.decent.

coins, tokens vs.coins, yadda yadda yadda. Its a pet peeve and its sort of nit picky.BUT we all want more adoption of the space.

As that comes, so too should differentiation of the terminology so we dont keep using BTC and one of 12000 zombie coins out there in the same sentence.

Just my.02 sats

“Crypto” people aka shitcoiners have spent years differentiating “crypto” from Bitcoin by launching tens of thousands of scams, often using false marketing in an attempt to undermine or supplant Bitcoin itself.

While all those “crypto” schemes have robust marketing budgets, Bitcoin doesn’t even have a marketing department. So Bitcoiners have somewhat collectively decided that the best way to continue promoting Bitcoin is to inform people that Bitcoin stands alone in the cryptocurrency scene. There are no competitors. If you think this sounds dumb, then by all means, go all in on shitcoins.Just don’t try to associate that nonsense with Bitcoin. Some people refuse to learn unless the lessons are very expensive, and while your pet projects will all collapse or evaporate, Bitcoin will be here when you’re ready.
