free already Solved the same problem what’s going on a short okay so let’s go through the whole thing then we’ll close out the video so this is from shy one of devs one of the uh I’m guessing community devs of Cass as I explained the kip3 thread thread the way difficulty is currently Calculate is problematic since the size of difficulty window corresponds to real world time high BPS means larger windows in one BPS this already forced us to choose window okay two end sizes uh 2 okay 2A okay sizes that are less than optimal increase in BPS uh to 8 means that uh A the number of blocks in the window is eight times larger and B the number of times we have very to verify difficulty every second is also eight times larger hence the difficulty adjustment becomes 64 times heavier for the 30 BPS this means this becomes 900 times heavier This is obviously a no-go the rescue is in the inside that you don’t really need all blocks to adjust difficulty it is more than sufficient to have a small subset of the window as long as it is uniformly spread across the window and that’s what exactly kip3 suggests use The hashes the block of the blocks the same plus subset uh used for difficulty adjustment but it’s this safe when pouring over when pouring over the details we realize there is a following attack say a new Miner joins the networks increase in the global hash rate by example 20 since the Miner knows which block would be sampled by a for daa they could just withhold these blocks at a rather marginal cost the conscious the consequence the block rate would increase by 20 but the daa misses the new blocks and the difficulty doesn’t increase oh okay the straightforward solution is use a sample Blocks to estimate times but the actual number of blocks to adjust difficulty if lower blocks are sampled then each sample would correspond to more blocks while in the solution is simple in principle it introduces some technical difficulties that are best avoided this encouraged us to revive another approach that we Abandoned before don’t sample box just look at the original window and take only in every C blocks example if c equal 9 you take the the uh oh ninth 18th block Etc okay nice stuff the reason is uh this approach was originally abandoned is that is not Global in the krp3 method There’s a subset of the entire dag that all blocks use for adjustment in the current approach two different blocks might use different subset for daa which means that the DIA window data must be stored per block however diving into details we realized that that is not quite the handicap We Fear by carefully Choosing the underlined ordering it is possible to take an incremental approach uh incremental approach excuse me portion of the window within the mortgage set and inherits the rest from its selected parent much like how the blue set is stored this method is in fact so efficient that we don’t even Have to sort the daa window at all 90 99 of the time the selected parents window would still be cached in the RAM and in the remaining one percent we can compute the window on the Fly we never have to commit it to storage unlike how Kips Usually go can I P4 was written after it was implemented okay in fact it was theorem 88 first foray into Casper’s extremely sort of conscious consensus layer it’s heartwarming to see a developer rise from the community to
