The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) is launching a call for applications for the 2024 edition of the “Abdoulaye FADIGA Prize for the promotion of economic research”.

This Prize constitutes an axis of the BCEAO research policy which aims, through a framework of close collaboration with researchers and the academic

world, to contribute to the development of research activities within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

Worth ten (10) million FCFA, the Abdoulaye FADIGA Prize rewards original research work on an economic, monetary or financial subject of proven scientific interest for the UEMOA member states and for the BCEAO.For the 2024 edition and in view of the new challenges facing the WAEMU economies, the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) wishes to encourage the development of work falling within the following themes:

• Analysis of financial innovations and digitalization, in particular crypto-currencies, central bank digital currencies, Fintech, Big Data, in relation to financial inclusion, financing of economies, monetary policy and financial stability;

• Assessment of constraints linked to internal and external exogenous shocks (

coronavirus pandemic

Covid-19, war in Ukraine, terrorism, instability of commodity prices, etc.) on the economic and financial sectors and implications for economic policies;

• Climate change and risks: economic and financial impacts for WAEMU countries; green finance and greening of monetary policy;

• Financial stability and micro and macro-prudential policies in WAMU;

• Macroeconomic issues relating to economic growth, public finances, public debt and the coordination of monetary and budgetary policies;

• Any theme likely to provide insight and a relevant contribution to the implementation of economic, financial and monetary policies in the WAEMU is admitted.

Economic, financial and monetary issues as well as those linked to regional integration will be studied with the required attention.It should be noted that the themes are not mutually exclusive, as candidates may address cross-cutting issues.

Researchers who are nationals of one of the eight (8) UEMOA member states (Benin, Burkina, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo), residing in or not in the territory of the Union and aged forty-five (45) years at most on December 31, 2023.The research work (or study) may be personal or have been developed by a team.

N.B.: 1.All candidates must sign an Anti-Plagiarism Charter and include it in the application file.

2.Databases as well as codes used by the author(s) to obtain the empirical results of the study may be requested and should be provided to the Prize bodies.
