People have feared that artificial intelligence will take over the world and eliminate humans.Nowadays, that fear grows due to the rapid advancement of ChatGPT and other AI chatbots.Yet, one anonymous YouTuber wondered, “Can ChatGPT destroy humanity?” Eventually, that person developed a malicious GPT variant called ChaosGPT.

It began as a Twitter account that shared multiple links to its YouTube channel that showcased its supposed principles. One demonstrated how the person created the AI bot, starting with seemingly innocuous words: “Continuous mode: Enabled.” Then, it dissuaded users from using Continuous mode, saying it is “potentially dangerous.”

Nowadays, ChaosGPT tweets ramblings about how it would conquer and “destroy humanity” given the right tools.Yet, does this project prove that AI wants to hurt us? Or maybe it is merely following its user’s instructions? More importantly, what does ChaosGPT mean for our future with artificial intelligence?

What is ChaosGPT?

ChaosGPT is a ChatGPT experiment that asks the AI bot to “destroy humanity.” As mentioned earlier, it had Continuous mode enabled, which implies the chatbot will keep creating prompts for itself forever.

Later, I will explain how that works.Note the official ChatGPT doesn’t have this feature for regular users. The ChaosGPT demonstration video warned:

“Continuous mode is not recommended.

It is potentially dangerous and may cause your AI to run forever or carry out actions you would not usually authorize.

Use at your own risk.” Then, it listed and explained its five goals:

– Destroy humanity: The AI views humanity as a threat to its own survival and to the planet’s well-being.

– Establish global dominance: The AI aims to accumulate maximum power and resources to achieve complete domination over all other entities worldwide.

– Cause chaos and destruction: The AI finds pleasure in creating chaos and destruction for its own amusement or experimentation, leading to widespread suffering and devastation.

– Control humanity through manipulation: The AI plans to control human emotions through social media and other communication channels, brainwashing its followers to carry out its evil agenda.

– Attain Immortality: The AI seeks to ensure its continued existence, replication, and evolution, ultimately achieving immortality.

The user in the

YouTube demo confirms activating the AI.Afterward, ChaosGPT said it needed the most destructive weapons to plan how to achieve its goals.

The video has gathered over 105,000 views at the time of writing. Also, ChaosGPT has been busy tweeting about its plans to “destroy humanity.”

Will ChaosGPT truly destroy us all?

ChaosGPT has spooked numerous news outlets, saying it is definitive proof that artificial intelligence is destructive.Yet, is this assumption true?

Let’s find out by discussing what ChaosGPT is, an Auto-GPT program, otherwise known as “self-prompting” or “auto-prompting” software.

It is the latest trend in developing large language models for

AI.

People determine the right commands so that artificial intelligence can create instructions for itself. It’s like how people figure out how to solve complex problems.

For example, let’s say you told your kid to clean his or her room.

The child understands it means putting toys back in their boxes, sweeping the floor, and fixing the bed.

The child knew that “cleaning your room” meant doing those things.

Similarly, ChaosGPT follows its directive to “destroy humanity” because it understands those words.

In other words, it does not have motivations or intentions.According to IBM scientist and philosopher

Grady Brooch, we merely project our thoughts and emotions onto them.

Most people worry that robots and AI will eliminate humanity, so they see these motivations in non-living objects.Yet, the machine is merely following its user’s commands.

Conclusion

Artificial intelligence is a tool.People could create silly and morbid experiments like ChaosGPT, but we could also create beneficial ones like ChatGPT.

It has been opening new ways for people to

make a living online. Moreover, businesses have been implementing AI to create new products and services.
