Food waste is a big problem in the US.Is a Wi-Fi-equipped trash can a solution?

I get trash mailed to me every day.Although I recycle 99% of it.Mailing some back that others find actually useful seems sane to me, as long as the numbers line up.

You’re also paying THEM, even though they take your waste and use it as feed.

This all seems like an absolute non-starter.Compost is free, people!

Oh, god, there’s a special place in hell for real estate agents who send out huge sheet magnets every three months.I get trash mailed to me every day.

Yeah, I don’t believe that for even a second.Mailing the stuff, packaging, shipping it to farmers, not to mention all the costs just from running it all add up.This just seems like a slightly different twist to all the similar “food waste recyclers” Thunderf00t has busted over the years.

Here, have two videos of e.g.the Lomi, which is remarkably similar:But considering the manufacturing of the bin and the boxes, their shipment, and the emissions that result from powering the bin, is Mill actually good for the environment? Rogers said the company performed a “detailed” life-cycle assessment that took into consideration these factors. After all that, the service still ends up saving a household around a half metric ton of carbon emissions per year, he said.According to an emailed statement from Mill, the bin’s energy usage will depend on the kinds of waste put into it, but with future updates, the app and the bin will operate more efficiently.

What, you’ve never heard of junk mail before?

Except for the time, the effort, the smell, and whatever it costs to keep rodents out of it.Compost is free, people!

Compost is basically just turning food back into dirt.

As long as your toxins aren’t heavy metals it shouldn’t be a problem.Business model aside – is that even safe? I’m not sure pasteurization would get rid of toxins. You know, most of the time when I throw away food, it’s because it went bad (moldy, rotten). Also, the taste of the chickens/eggs would likely be affected and harder to control.

Compost is absolutely not free if you’re living in, say, a fourth-floor apartment.

It’s free if you think losing twenty square feet of garden to a composter and the space around it is immaterial. You’re also paying THEM, even though they take your waste and use it as feed.

This all seems like an absolute non-starter.Compost is free, people!

Yes, it also needs it’s own crypto currency that can be traded….I know what it needs – blockchain.

How on Earth is this better than the existing programmes where the local waste authority picks up your food waste and makes compost with it at a local composting facility?

(The local authority I lived in in London a decade ago sold the compost, but residents could collect (some number) of bags for free from the local recycling centre, which was quite cool if you had a garden or balcony or whatever.)

Yes, but their plan is to turn the food waste not into compost but into chicken feed.

I don’t see how feeding chicken poor quality dirt or moldy half-composted feed is going to help the chickens and their eggs much.Compost is basically just turning food back into dirt.As long as your toxins aren’t heavy metals it shouldn’t be a problem.

My gut says that it’d still be both more economical and more environmentally friendly to just throw the food-waste in the trash and buy dirt from a store than run this thing 24/7 and subscribe to their silly service.Compost is absolutely not free if you’re living in, say, a fourth-floor apartment. It’s free if you think losing twenty square feet of garden to a composter and the space around it is immaterial.

Smell, sure.

Time and effort is pretty minimal if you set it up correctly.Rodents…? Again, if you set it up correctly, it’s a non-issue.Except for the time, the effort, the smell, and whatever it costs to keep rodents out of it.

It does check just about every other terrible business idea line item, so why not.I know what it needs – blockchain.

You’re also paying THEM, even though they take your waste and use it as feed. This all seems like an absolute non-starter.

Compost is free, people!

I don’t know about where you live, but this story prompted me to look and find out that my city has a program where I can drop off compostables free of charge.Compost is absolutely not free if you’re living in, say, a fourth-floor apartment. It’s free if you think losing twenty square feet of garden to a composter and the space around it is immaterial..
