Bhubaneswar: The economic offences wing (EOW), investigating Solar Techno Alliances (STA-Token) alleged pan-India online ponzi scam, has come across Rs 31 crore transactions in the bank accounts of the company’s Odisha head, Nirod Das, who was arrested in August.“On scrutiny of Das’s three accounts, we found that about Rs 31.23 crore, including cash deposit of Rs 2.10 crore was transacted in the recent past.He never parked the money in his accounts. The money was withdrawn and transferred to multiple accounts. We are chasing the money trail,” EOW’s inspector general of police J N Pankaj said.On August 7, the EOW arrested Das and his boss Gurtej Singh Sidhu, who was the country head of STA-Token.The EOW said Das had taken a posh office on rent in Bhadrak district and used to hold regular meetings to attract investors.STA-Token is accused of illegally accepting deposits of more than Rs 1,000 crore from over 2 lakh people across different states, including Odisha.

It collected around Rs 30 crore from at least 10,000 people in Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Bhubaneswar, besides taking money from investors in different states.According to the EOW, the company was illegally running an online ponzi business in the guise of crypto-currency trading and encouraged investors to enrol more members under them.Offering incentive to build a network chain, the company told depositors that the scale of interest and bonus would depend on the number of investors (downline members) they manage to recruit.“We found that Das had used his referral link to add 21,000 downline members under him and in the process had amassed a huge amount of wealth. His bail application was rejected by a court in Cuttack on September 16,” Pankaj said.Ratnakar Palai, another accused, had spent about Rs 1.42 lakh at an event at Bhubaneswar to promote STA-Token.The probe agency has found that Palai has invested over Rs 60 lakh in purchasing plots in Bhubaneswar.During verification of his banks at Talcher and Bhubaneswar, it was ascertained that a total transaction of Rs 1.3 crore took place in the recent past.We also published the following articles recentlyAIIMS-Bhubaneswar to get three new departmentsAIIMS-Bhubaneswar will be adding three new departments to enhance patient care, according to its executive director, Ashutosh Biswas. The new departments include Infectious Diseases, Bioinformatics, and Biostatistics.
