A thrilling South Korean drama could be set to follow in the footsteps of the blockbuster success of Squid Game .Ten-part Netflix series Extracurricular follows the lives of four Korean teenagers who are each members of the fictional ‘Doggo’ app, which works as an online escort service.The programme, which is packed full of bloody violence and gore, features Oh Ji-soo, played by Kim Dong-hee, who runs the illegal prostitution business through internet chatrooms using the name ‘Uncle’, as he attempts to keep his identity secret.It becomes more difficult for Ji-soo after his classmates Seo Min-hee, played by Jung Da Bin, and Bae Gyu-ri, portrayed by Park Joo-Huun, begin to work for him, and chaos ensues as the teenagers are plunged into the bloody world of sex work, trafficking and violence.The series bears shocking similarities to the Nth Room case, which was a major news story in South Korea last year after an infamous online chat room that lured young women, including minors, with promises of high-paying jobs before forcing them into pornography, was exposed.

She is forced to call for help using a wristband which sends a message to Ji-soo, who then alerts Mr Lee and asks him to deal with the ‘dirtbag’.A fight ensues and Mr Lee stabs the client in the foot with the scissors.

Meanwhile the pair are also involved in a hefty brawl with Dae-yeol, the owner of a brothel, in which Mr Lee is bloodily stabbed with an axe to the back.The ‘Nth Room’ case is a criminal case involving blackmail, cybersex trafficking, and the spread of sexually exploitative videos via the Telegram app between 2018 and 2020 in South Korea.Moon Hyung-Wook, nicknamed god god, sold sexual exploitation videos on Telegram channels and groups.A copycat crime, known as the ‘Doctor’s Room’, was operated by Cho Joo-bin, 24, using the screen name Doctor, who is accused of blackmailing dozens of women, forcing them to take sexually exploitative videos, with some involving rape.The number of confirmed victims is at least 103, including 26 minors.It was revealed that the victims’ pictures were shared and sold to over 260,000 IDs (narrowed down to about 60,000 users, taking into consideration overlapping profiles) and were anonymously paid for in cryptocurrency.
Cameras follow each twist and turn of the drama, including a shocking scene in which Dae-yeol’s men torture Ji-soo and threaten to saw off his arm.However the final episodes of the season are particularly gory, with Gyu-ri stabbing the gangster Dae-yeol multiple times and an enormous fight breaking out which sees high schoolers beating nightclub workers with metal pipes and bats.The episode finishes as Dae-yeol and Mr.Lee fight on the roof, eventually killing each other.They’re later discovered by police in puddles of blood.Much like Squid Game, the finale is shockingly violent, with several fights depicted; including one in which Ji-soo pushes Min-hee down the stairs after she threatens to explose secret.Meanwhile after discovering Min-hee’s phone covered in blood, her boyfriend stabs Ji-soo multiple times with a pair of scissors.
The series bears many similarities to the Nth Room case, which triggered intense public uproar last year as critics said the South Korean culture is lenient about sexual violence and continuously fails the victims.The case saw a user nicknamed ‘God God,’ who was later identified as Moon Hyung-Wook created eight groups online, and uploaded sexually exploitative pornography.Another user nicknamed ‘Doctor’ posted part-time job offerings on Twitter, seeking to gather personal information from girls who applied.In the ‘Doctor’s Room’, the sexually exploitative pornography was distributed via a Telegram chatroom and was only accessible via a cryptocurrency payment.Doctor was later unmasked as Cho Joo-bin, 24, who was the editor of the newspaper at a vocational college in Incheon, west of Seoul.He was the leader of a group of men who ran a clandestine online chat room in which they shared and traded sexually explicit footage.Those in his gang included other men in their 20s and teenagers.
Between May 2019 and February 2020, Mr.
Cho exploited 17 female victims for profit, circulating the footage in members-only chat rooms that he operated on Telegram, an encrypted messaging service popular in South Korea.Under the nickname ‘The Doctor,’ Cho allegedly operated one of the biggest chatrooms, with around 10,000 users.Within minutes of the first episode, one of the teenage sex workers is seen gagged and tied up in a brothel where she is threatened by a client with a pair of scissors (pictured) He is suspected of using private information he secured from workers at local government offices to blackmail victims lured through fake job ads, forcing them to create sexually explicit videos that sometimes involved rape and violence.He would then threaten to release the clips to friends and relatives if they victims didn’t supply increasingly dehumanizing and violent footage, often tailor-made for customers.Mr.Cho once forced a 15-year-old girl to meet a paid customer to perform sex acts, prosecutors said.
He was eventually tracked down by police.While police usually don´t release the identities of criminal suspects out of respect of their rights, they made an exception with Cho by revealing his full name and displaying him in front of the media, saying that his alleged crime was particularly heinous.Police, who seized about 130 million won ($105,000) in cash from Cho´s house following his arrest, said his customers could have paid as much as 1.5 million won ($1,200) in cryptocurrency to watch the videos.After he was arrested, Mr.Cho told reporters, ‘Thank you for stopping my life as a devil that I could not stop.’ Much like Squid Game, the programme also features extreme violence including a moment where teenagers use bats and metal pipes to beat nightclub workers Meanwhile his customers turned themselves in to the police, while, according to local news reports, one killed himself.He was then sentenced to 40 years in prison on charges of blackmailing dozens of women, including minors, into filming sexually explicit videos and selling them to others.The court ruled Cho ‘used various methods to lure and blackmail a large number of victims into making sexually abusive contents and distributed them to many people for an extended period.
‘He particularly disclosed the identities of many victims and inflicted irreparable damage to them.’ Much like Squid Game, the finale is shockingly violent, with several fights depicted; including one in which a character is pushed down the head and smashes her head, and another in which Ji-soo is stabbed multiple times with a pair of scissors Prosecutors formally arrested or indicted Cho and seven accomplices for allegedly producing sexually abusive videos of 74 victims, 16 of them minors, and distributing them on the Telegram messaging app, where users paid in cryptocurrency to watch them in 2019-2020.A prosecutors´ statement called Cho´s group ‘a criminal ring’ of 38 members.On Thursday, the Seoul court sentenced five of Cho´s accomplices, one of them a 16-year-old, up to 15 years in prison.
