imageStraight from the horse’s mouth, former United States (US) president Donald Trump says he sees himself returning to the White House as early as August, on account of multiple elections audits in key states going in his favor.
Trump avers that he’ll be reinstated following his failed reelection bid last year along with defeated Republican senators David Perdue of Georgia and Martha McSally of Arizona.
Don’t be so mean by wanting to throw the blonde bomb into a padded cell while restrained by a straight jacket because there should be no kicking a man’s when he’s already down.
Also, don’t count out Trump while he still has his rightist followers numbering in the millions and while his business empire still stands mighty with a deep war chest to back his triumphant Napoleonic return from the battlefield.
While Trump’s reinstatement may be hallucinatory, his intent to run for president in 2024 is beyond doubt, far from being borne out of a lucid interval.Donald’s messianic complex is just too strong for him not to rise from his political grave.
Jason Miller, Trump’s spokesperson, told Forbes, “You’ll just have to keep watching!” Shots fired and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg should be watching his six o’clock from a vengeful Trump.
Suspended by Facebook indefinitely for inciting his followers to attack the US Capitol in January, Trump saw his “sentence” reduced this week by a third-party oversight board put up by FB to arbitrate users’ complaints on suspensions and deleted posts.
From being on social media limbo for who knows how long, as Twitter and YouTube have banned and suspended him, respectively, Trump can now look forward to his FB account being unblocked by January 2023, well ahead of his 2024 election bid 3.0.
Facebook’s oversight committee deemed the indefinite suspension to be too harsh and we see Twitter and YouTube following suit as these social media giants should well know political fortunes change.
Already reeling from anti-trust complaints not only in the US but also in Europe, these platforms, along with tech behemoths like Apple and Amazon, know they cannot afford a vengeful Trump returning to power.
Angry as hell over the two-year FB suspension, Trump warns the Facebook boss that, “Next time I’m in the White House, there will be no more dinners, at his request, with Mark Zuckerberg and his wife.It will be all business!”
What business Trump referred to may not be anything like the Libra cryptocurrency that Zuckerberg tried to peddle and then defend before Congress shortly after that 2019 dinner.
Facebook claimed Trump invited Zuckerberg to the White House, but the Donald seems to say now that the dinner meeting was requested by the FB boss man.Either way, one of them can only be lying because both claims cannot be true at the same time.
An incontrovertible fact, however, is that Peter Thiel, a Facebook board member and big donor of the Trump campaigns, was there in that dinner before that cryptocurrency hearing by the Congress.
Was it a case of Zuckerberg and Thiel asking Trump to rally his congressional minions to treat them with a kid’s glove?
In suspending Trump and in laying down new regulations on political posts on the platform, Facebook completed a 180-degree turn on Zuckerberg’s position when he and Donald were still friends.
That position by MZ three years ago was that Facebook would not serve as a policeman on clashing political posts, including Trump’s incendiary comments, because they concerned public interest.
Now, Facebook says otherwise — that it would now judge and sanction, if need be, politicians’ posts on the possible harm they may have on the majority of its users.
FB has left an escape hatch — for itself and not for the politicians — for posts that should have been censored based on its new guidelines but were not.It says it reserves the right to append a “newsworthiness” exemption.
In what may be seen as throwing crumbs to politicians who, with the Trump censure, may now feel the immense power of the social media giants, Facebook will keep the politicians’ posts from the ambit of third-party checkers.
Based on Facebook’s actions, MZ has suddenly grown a pair, at least against his newfound “frenemy” in the person of the vindictive Trump.
